Educational: Our educational programs reach three populations.

  1. Individuals with Developmental and Related Disabilities:  We teach basic living skills to people of any age.
  2. Family Members, Guardians and Caregivers:  We provide workshops about resources, future planning (trusts, housing, etc.), and changes in public policy.
  3. Members of the Community:  We provide opportunities for members of the community to learn more about their neighbors with disabilities.

Social: Our social programs offer opportunities for individuals to break isolation and build informal support networks. We teach social skills and relationship building (including appropriate boundaries and personal safety).  We also provide opportunities for individuals to explore the treasures of our community.

Advocacy: Our advocacy services involve a combination of individual and systems advocacy.

  1. Individual Advocacy:  On the individual level, we work with people with disabilities and their families to solve issues with which they are struggling. We help narrow down the problem, identify alternatives, and work toward a solution. This often involves creating linkages to community resources, advocating for services on behalf of persons, and being creative in solving individual problems.
  2. Systems Advocacy:  This involves the broader picture— identifying and addressing issues that affect people with disabilities, and becoming involved with local and regional working committees and advisory councils. Most often, these issues are related to the level of services or funding available, and accessibility and fairness.

Programs specific to Youth and Family.  We work with youth to build strong peer relationships, create a connection with the Arc, and better prepare for adult life.  We work with them and their families to help work toward an education that will help them achieve their dreams.
